Terms of Service

Lux is an application that lets you generate AI-narrated audio of public-domain Bible translations using voices you have enrolled on the service.

Voice Recordings and Likeness Rights

Lux uses AI voice-cloning technology to generate scripture narration in a user’s chosen voice. Because voice and likeness are protected by law in most jurisdictions, including but not limited to the Tennessee ELVIS Act, California Civil Code §3344, and the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act, the following terms apply to every voice enrolled on Lux:

  1. Authorization required. You may only enroll a voice that is (a) your own, recorded by you in real time through our recording flow, or (b) recorded by a third party through an invitation link we provide, with that third party providing their own explicit consent to the recording and to voice-cloning use. You may not upload pre-existing audio files of any person, including yourself, through any other path.
  2. Prohibited voices. You may not enroll or attempt to enroll the voice of any of the following: (a) any public figure, celebrity, elected official, or commercially recognizable voice; (b) any deceased person; (c) any person under 18 years of age, except that a parent or legal guardian may enroll a recording made of their own minor child solely for use within their own household; (d) any person who has not personally and explicitly consented to the recording and to voice cloning under these terms.
  3. Acceptable use of generated audio. Audio generated by Lux is licensed to the enrolling household for private, non-commercial listening within that household only. You may not (a) redistribute the audio outside the household; (b) post the audio publicly; (c) use the audio for any commercial purpose; (d) use the audio to impersonate, defraud, harass, or deceive any person; (e) train any other AI model or service on the generated audio.
  4. Representations and warranties. By enrolling a voice you represent and warrant that: (a) you have all rights and consents necessary to do so; (b) the voice belongs to a real person who has personally consented to its use here; (c) your use of Lux will comply with all applicable laws including biometric privacy laws, right-of-publicity laws, and consumer-protection laws.
  5. Indemnification. You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Lux and its operators against any claim, demand, loss, or expense (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from any voice you enroll, any audio generated from a voice you enrolled, any breach of the representations in this section, or any use of Lux that violates these Terms or applicable law.
  6. Our rights to remove. We may remove, disable, or refuse to render any voice or audio at our discretion, with or without notice, including in response to a report of suspected unauthorized voice cloning. We may preserve evidence including audio samples, consent records, and audit logs in connection with any investigation.
  7. Revocation by the speaker. Any person whose voice has been enrolled may revoke their consent at any time at luxbibles.com/revoke or by contacting us at privacy@luxbibles.com. Upon verified revocation, we will disable the voice and all audio generated from it, and delete the underlying recordings and generated audio within 30 days.
  8. Reporting. If you believe a voice has been enrolled on Lux without the speaker’s consent, please report it at luxbibles.com/report. We review all reports within 72 hours.
  9. Limitation of liability. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability arising from any voice-related claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim.

AI-Generated Content

All audio served by Lux is generated by an artificial intelligence voice-cloning model trained on a brief sample of the speaker’s voice. Generated audio is a synthetic reproduction. It is not, and should not be represented to be, an actual recording of the named speaker reading the passages. You agree:

  1. Not to represent the generated audio as a recording of the named speaker actually reading the passage.
  2. Not to use the generated audio in any way that could deceive another person into believing the speaker actually said or recorded the content.
  3. Not to remove, alter, or obscure any disclosure that the audio is AI-generated.
  4. That audio files accessed via Lux remain Lux’s licensed content under the translation rights described in the following section. You may listen to them through the Lux application or through signed download links provided in your data export, but you may not redistribute, repost, share, or upload them to any other platform.

The cloning technology has known limitations. The synthesized voice may not perfectly match the speaker’s natural voice, may produce artifacts, and may not capture emotional or stylistic nuance. Lux makes no representation that the generated audio is indistinguishable from the speaker’s actual voice.

Scripture Text and Translation Rights

Lux uses Bible translations under one of three legal bases: (a) public-domain texts free of copyright; (b) translations licensed to Lux for the specific uses described in our agreement with the rights-holder; or (c) translations made available under permissive open licenses. The full list of available translations on Lux, along with publisher information, license status, and required attributions, is maintained at luxbibles.com/translations. We do not permit users to upload, ingest, or otherwise add their own Bible translations to Lux. We do not generate audio from any translation not explicitly authorized for AI narration. If you believe a translation is being used on Lux without authorization, please contact us at [contact email] and we will investigate and respond within 5 business days.

Account termination

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, including any account used to enroll voices without consent or to attempt to generate copyrighted content.

No warranty

Lux is provided as-is. We make no warranty as to the quality of the generated audio, the availability of the service, or its fitness for any particular purpose.
