What we collect

We collect the email address and display name you provide at signup, the voice samples you record on Lux, the audio we generate from those samples, basic listening data (which chapter you played last, your playback position) so the app can resume where you left off, and the consent records described below.

Voice samples (biometric)Until revoked or account deleted, plus a 30-day deletion window.
Generated audioSame as the source voice sample.
Consent recordsRetained as long as needed to demonstrate authorization and comply with legal obligations.

AI-Generated Audio

All audio served by Lux is generated by an AI voice-cloning model from the voice samples you enrolled. Because the generated audio is derived directly from biometric data, it shares the same lawful basis, retention rule, and deletion process as the underlying voice sample. When you revoke a voice or delete your account, the generated audio is deleted on the same schedule as the source sample.

Voice Recordings and Biometric Data

Voice recordings are biometric information under several laws, including the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA). We collect voice samples only with the explicit, recorded consent of the speaker — captured through three granular attestations (identity, authorization, and acceptable use) plus the speaker’s legal name and birth year, before any recording begins. We use voice samples solely to generate scripture narration audio for the household that enrolled the voice. We do not sell biometric data, share it with third parties for advertising, or use it for any purpose other than the service. Voice samples and generated audio are stored encrypted at rest and accessed only via short-lived signed URLs. You may request deletion of your voice data at any time; we will complete deletion within 30 days of a verified request. We retain consent records (but not necessarily the voice samples themselves) for as long as needed to demonstrate authorization and to comply with legal obligations.

How we use it

We use this data only to provide Lux to you. Voice samples are sent to our voice cloning provider (Modal, running an open-source model called Chatterbox) for the purpose of generating your requested audio. Voice samples are never sold, shared with advertisers, used to train models, or made available to other users.

Where it’s stored

Account data and voice samples are stored on Supabase (US region). Generated audio is stored on the same Supabase project. Voice processing happens transiently on Modal’s GPU servers and is not retained there beyond the rendering job.

Your Rights

You may access, correct, delete, or revoke consent for any of the data described above. To make a request, contact us at privacy@luxbibles.com. We will respond within 30 days. You may also use the Profile page in the app to download a full data export, schedule full account deletion (which removes voice samples and generated audio after a 30-day grace window), delete individual voices or renders, or clear listening history.

If your voice was enrolled on Lux with your consent and you wish to revoke that consent, use luxbibles.com/revoke — no account is required. If your voice was enrolled without your consent, use luxbibles.com/report instead.

Deletion

You may request deletion of your account at any time from the profile page. Your account is fully deleted 30 days after request, including all voice samples and generated audio. You may cancel the request by signing back in within that window.

Reporting unauthorized voice cloning

If you believe a voice has been enrolled on Lux without the speaker’s consent — including your own — please report it at luxbibles.com/report. We review all reports within 72 hours.
